Sprint For My Life

And everything will be going great and I’ve forgotten about you for most of the day and then, there you are. Like a jump scare twisting my gut and stealing my breath.

Some days fissure my insides more than others. Yesterday I just missed the idea of you. Flashbacks from the hotel we were staying at. Sitting on that ugly patterned carpet outside my room, FaceTiming you until my phone died. Today I miss your entire being. The way I felt like I was yours. Like I had a place to run to at the end of the day.

And boy would I run.

Sprint for my life for you, Darlin.

The ache always ignites with you —

but it decimates me.
